Fiddlehead unfolding

This is a macro shot of the shoot of a young black tree-fern (Cyathea medullaris) growing near the dog pen. It was just a fiddle-head yesterday and this morning, it slowly unfolds its leaf-like structure. It would take years for this frond to become mature; that is, the trunk would be black covered hexagonal stipe scars. In Bisaya, anutong is the name for this is fern.
